James Kinney

Thanks to a tip from the homie NSR, I ventured down to Ella this last Thursday to catch a set by an R&B artist out of Austin, Texas named James Kinney.  Having never heard his music before, I was happily surprised to walk into a packed room full of people bouncing to his soulful sounds.  With a voice that I’d loosely relate to the style of John Legond, backed up with a clearly talented group of musicians, you can tell James is no novice when it comes to live performance.  He’s currently working on an unreleased album titled Masterpieces of Simplicity, which I was lucky enough to get an advanced look at.  If you’re in the NY area within the next couple of months, check out his Myspace for upcoming performances, including a weekly Thursday residency at Ella on Houston & A.  James wanted to give special thanks to Ronin, J Green, Corey Chorus, Ray Edwards, John White, and Oni Studios in Austin for help with the album.  Check out his personal website here.
