Planet Rock

Planet Rock’s a new collaboration coming out of one of LA’s best electronic music/event sites: Danceism. The trio, consisting of Ben Optsru, Dom Corleon, and Asaa describe their sound as “futuristic booty bass while paying homage to it’s 90s hip hop roots.” Check out their remixes of Robyn’s smash hit, Show Me Love as well as Diplo’s Horsey and if you dig the sounds make sure to like their Facebook page and head over to their Soundcloud for other awesome tracks (see LAZRBEAM).

Oliver

Oliver, made up of Vaughn “U-Tern” Oliver and Oliver “Oligee” Goldstein, are quite possibly the most consistent remix team out right now. All Night has been a set staple of mine for the last year or so…no different from their brand new remix of Sneaky Sound System’s Big. David Berrie

A fellow NYC DJ I’ve been paying attention to for a while is David Berrie. On top of him being a regular selection for some of the best bookings in the city, he’s now made a name for himself internationally, putting out both remixes/originals releases for labels like Ultra Records. In fact, a few of them have become staples to my sets over the last couple months…including these two tracks, his original, Step Up as well as his remix of Adele’s smash hit, Rolling In The Deep (speaking of that, check this out). Oh hai! This post is about me …check out these two mashup tracks I released over the summer. The first, Good Levels has far and above beaten my Soundcloud record, bringing in over 7000 streams to date. It features samples of Avicii, Superskank and System Of A Down. The second, Love Collision, I just recently put out before my Burning Man shows featuring samples of Florence & The Machine, Afrojack, Leona Lewis, and Mark Knight. You’ve heard Starsmith’s work a few times on this site, even though I haven’t personally wrote about him. He was one of the main producers of Ellie Goulding’s just insane album, Lights, he’s featured on my mix, Nowism as well as the remixes I’ve posted of his for Marina & The Diamonds & Lady Gaga. Now, I’ve got an amazing original of his for you called Lesson One and what the heck, while we’re on the pop tip I’ll go ahead and put up another remix, this time of Far East Movement’s Rocketeer. Don’t know much, other than he’s got a cool looking little character for himself, he’s from London and his music is awesome. A new artist you should all get familiar with is Shook. He’s been steadily putting out awesome electro-funk remixes for the last year or so and recently put out a personal EP called The Glow. Last Thursday, I was fortunate enough to have been flown up to Toronto, Ontario to the DJ the launch for a new clothing line, called Ferknot. It’s actually pretty awesome…you pick a collection shirt, take your measurements as instructed by their online guide, and boom, in two weeks you’ve got a great looking, perfect fitting shirt. Recently, I’ve been paying a lot more attention to minimal/tech/deep house and one artist that keeps impressing me is Nicolas Jaar. After listening to his music for the first time (headphones please) you can understand why this 19 year old has been hailed as “one of the most talented minds dance music is about to see develop.” Check out these two tracks, an original called Variations and a remix of No Regular Play’s Owe Me. of his and if you really like, head over to his Facebook and Soundcloud (has over 50 tracks posted!!).

Zeds Dead

If you’re into Dubstep, I’d be seriously surprised if you haven’t heard of Zeds Dead yet. Based out of Toronto, the duo, made up of DC and Hooks, are really progressing the genre. Their unique sounds and unexpected remixes have been what made them stick out for me. Check out this new electro remix of Dragonette’s Volcano, as well as their remix of The Moody Blues’ Nights In White Satin, which I liked so much, I included it on my most recent mix, Sweet Dreams (Download here, Stream Here). MC Wack

I meant to write about MC Wack months and months ago, but just didn’t get around to it. Nonetheless, felt it necessary to give props where they’re due, even if late. Check out these two tracks he put out on his mixtape Congé Récession. The first track, Les Phases Qui Claquent, is an awesome retake on Hudson Mohawk’s Fuse, which I included on 2009′s HOHME HUNDRED as well as covered back in October 09. The second track, Mon Côté Autiste is great as well, even though I can’t understand a word he’s saying….doesn’t matter though, it speaks to me….and not to mention it sounds like he’s talking about spliffs, which is chill. I rarely do double posts. Madeon deserves it though. He’s got five tracks out on his Soundcloud and I absolutely love every single one…I actually had trouble picking four out of the five. I haven’t had a producer impress me like this since I was introduced to Louis La Roche or Breakbot, and get this….he’s only 16 years old! I think that says about enough. Enjoy these four incredibly well produced tracks. I chose his two originals, For You and Shuriken as well as his remixes of Alphabeat’s DJ and The Killer’s hit, Smile Like You Mean it. Norwegian Recycling

I don’t usually play up shameless mashups, in fact, even though I’ll always respect his work as an artist, I can still only listen to about ten minutes of any girl-talk album before I can’t take it anymore. That being said, I was really impressed when I heard this Miracles mashup by Norwegian Recycling. Yes, very pop…yes, very catchy…yes, quite corny…but whatever….I like it. The track includes samples from 15 different artists, including Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, B.O.B., Gnarls Barkley, Survivor, and much more. I also liked his mashup titled Viva La Viral which features the likes of Coldplay, Empire Of the Sun, Killers, Muse. Check out his Myspace and Facebook for more info.

Neon Hitch

Neon Hitch has a pretty unique story, and not only because that’s literally the name her parents put on her birth certificate. She was born into a family of gypsy street performers in London, traveling with the circus at age 4, ending up in India by herself at age 16 and flash forward to recently, with her landing a publishing deal with EMI. Although she’s currently working on her debut album; Beg, Borrow & Steal, she recently released some mashup/covers that I thought were fantastic. Check out her take on Mike Posner’s Cooler than Me mashed with Sia’s Breathe Me as well as Ellie Goulding’s Starry Eyed mashed with Two Door Cinema’s What You Know. Stay tuned for her upcoming work, as she’s got notable producer Benny Blanco behind her (Santogold, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, among others). For now, there are a couple other tracks up on her Myspace.
