Oliver, made up of Vaughn “U-Tern” Oliver and Oliver “Oligee” Goldstein, are quite possibly the most consistent remix team out right now. All Night has been a set staple of mine for the last year or so…no different from their brand new remix of Sneaky Sound System’s Big. David Berrie

A fellow NYC DJ I’ve been paying attention to for a while is David Berrie. On top of him being a regular selection for some of the best bookings in the city, he’s now made a name for himself internationally, putting out both remixes/originals releases for labels like Ultra Records. In fact, a few of them have become staples to my sets over the last couple months…including these two tracks, his original, Step Up as well as his remix of Adele’s smash hit, Rolling In The Deep (speaking of that, check this out). Starsmith

You’ve heard Starsmith’s work a few times on this site, even though I haven’t personally wrote about him. He was one of the main producers of Ellie Goulding’s just insane album, Lights, he’s featured on my mix, Nowism as well as the remixes I’ve posted of his for Marina & The Diamonds & Lady Gaga. Now, I’ve got an amazing original of his for you called Lesson One and what the heck, while we’re on the pop tip I’ll go ahead and put up another remix, this time of Far East Movement’s Rocketeer. Alex Boyd

Alex Boyd was about 10 years old when he decided to follow his dreams. He’d been singing and performing since the age of 7, and by 13 Alex had chased down opportunities most kids would never even dream of — he danced with Debbie Allen at the Kennedy Center, sang with Patti LaBelle and acted alongside Bruce Willis. Fast forward to present and he just released his new single, Light Up Tonight, a catchy, well produced tracks showcases alex’s talent. So I know that I already featured his track, Night Air on the HOHME Hundred, but still I can’t stress how good Jamie Woon is. If any album deserves a double post, it’s his debut, Mirrorwriting, which released on the 18th of last month. Upon first listen, it was immediately one of my new favorites. It was insanely difficult for me to even pick four favorites, but I finally decided on Street, Lady Luck, Shoulda, & TMRW; all of which give me chills on first listen. A new artist you should all get familiar with is Shook. He’s been steadily putting out awesome electro-funk remixes for the last year or so and recently put out a personal EP called The Glow. I included his original track Something About You and his remix of Phoenix’s Lisztomania, but definitely don’t sleep on his other tracks. Check out his remixes here and download The Glow here.

Lemâitre

MMMMMM….yummmy music. That’s what comes to my mind when listening to Lemâitre, out of Oslo, Norway. Hadn’t looked further into them after I found their track, The Friendly Sound, back in November of last year, but glad I recently did due to a reco from my buddy Evan. Their production is too clean, not in the sense of it being basic, whatsoever….more in the fact that each sound element seems to be perfectly placed within the composition. Can’t wait to hear more from these guys, but for now, here’s two tracks off their EP; Blue Shift, and 1:18. Last Thursday, I was fortunate enough to have been flown up to Toronto, Ontario to the DJ the launch for a new clothing line, called Ferknot. It’s actually pretty awesome…you pick a collection shirt, take your measurements as instructed by their online guide, and boom, in two weeks you’ve got a great looking, perfect fitting shirt. Currently based in Brooklyn, hailing from Israel, the duo Hank and Cupcakes have been generating some serious attention for their sexy, upbeat pop music. MTV’s already complemented their ”fresh new sound” and Huffington Post has hailed them as one of the ”15 Musical Acts to Break in 2011.” Check out their new hit, appropriately titled; HIT, which they were lovely enough to clear for welcomeHOHME. There’s some SERIOUSLY good new-wave soul coming out these days. Just recently, I wrote about Ben L’Oncle Soul, and now I’m thrilled to introduce you guys to Chino Maurice. Some of you know that I play all motown/soul/funky stuff for my monday residency at Apotheke. Chino’s sound encompasses an era that you rarely hear new artists working within these days. That in itself is why his track, Luna, can easily blend into any of my favorite soul classics without sounding out of place whatsoever. He’s brand new to the scene but things are moving quickly as he’s now prepping for his upcoming tour opening for N.E.R.D. Lucky for you peoples, I’ve got him here, pre-blowup with his new hit, Luna. The Five One

One of the things I’m noticing about WelcomeHohme is that the more I write, the more amazing music seems to find me. A perfect example is the the Five One, a fresh Pop/Rock/Hip-Hop group hailing from what they refer to as the DMV (DC, Maryland, & Virginia). Gold, the group’s bassist, hit me with a bunch of their tracks a couple months back and after all the holiday madness, I’m finally getting a chance to show them some love. They were recently featured on MTV2 for their track, Active and their sounds have been covered by the likes of MTVU, USA Today, the Washington Post and many more. Be on the look out as they’re currently planning a multi-city tour on their way to SXSW this March. Until then, enjoy their catchy sounds and if you really likes…head over to their Myspace and Site.

Whoa. Funny how some groups can send you back in time even if the music is new. Case and point, Hurts. A new group out of the UK, they’re producing music that sends me back to when my dad was playing me Men Without Hats albums back when I was a kid. I rarely do double posts (see second post). Madeon deserves it though. He’s got five tracks out on his Soundcloud and I absolutely love every single one…I actually had trouble picking four out of the five. I haven’t had a producer impress me like this since I was introduced to Louis La Roche or Breakbot, and get this….he’s only 16 years old! I think that says about enough. Enjoy these four incredibly well produced tracks. I chose his two originals, For You and Shuriken as well as his remixes of Alphabeat’s DJ and The Killer’s hit, Smile Like You Mean it. Ben L’Oncle Soul

I’ve been playing this track at my residencies a lot lately and people have been loving it. A fantastic soul/funk take on the White Stripes classic hit, Seven Nation Army. French artist Ben l’Oncle Soul signed to Motown recently, and I think once you hear these tracks, you’ll understand why.

I don’t usually play up shameless mashups, in fact, even though I’ll always respect his work as an artist, I can still only listen to about ten minutes of any girl-talk album before I can’t take it anymore. That being said, I was really impressed when I heard this Miracles mashup by Norwegian Recycling. Yes, very pop…yes, very catchy…yes, quite corny…but whatever….I like it. The track includes samples from 15 different artists, including Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson, B.O.B., Gnarls Barkley, Survivor, and much more. I also liked his mashup titled Viva La Viral which features the likes of Coldplay, Empire Of the Sun, Killers, Muse. Check out his Myspace and Facebook for more info.
