Nick Douwma, better known as Sub Focus, has been producing drum & bass in London since 2003. It wasn’t until a year ago that he released his self-titled, full-length debut album. I mean, I know this came out over 9 months, ago, but damnit is it good. His production is suuuper progressive, with hints of house/trance/dubstep all while maintaining an overall drum & bass feel….real high-energy stuff. What I’m even more excited about than his music is the fact that I have the opportunity to perform with him at the London Electronic Dance Festival in August. I qualified for the JUNO download contest on Lets Mix with my tightened-up/remastered version of last summer’s mix, When Passion Meets Intention, and if I win, I’ll be spinning literally right after Sub Focus. SO, PPLLLLEASE, HEAD OVER TO THIS LINK, LISTEN TO AT LEAST A MINUTE OF THE MIX, AND VOTE 5 STARS! It’ll push me that much closer to performing with this guy along with other huuge names, like David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Aphex Twin, The Bloody Beetroots, Afrojack, and much more…wow, just thinking about that makes my heart beat speed up. And Found, my most recent mix to date, was downloaded over 2000x in it’s first week after release. The mix also qualified for the Pioneer DJ Network Competition on LetsMix.com. I managed to pack 75 artist into 77 minutes of, once again, the newest and best in House, Electro, Disco, Trance, and of course some filthy dubby Dubstep to close it out.

eRNEST&AMz are an up and coming French and American electro/hip-hop collaboration sure to make their mark on the scene relatively soon. The group’s made up of Ernest Saint Laurent, a producer/multi-instrumentalist out of Paris, and Amz, a vocalist/DJ/producer out of NY. Their new remix of Miike Snow’s Sylvia is a banger….check it out along with another new track of theirs, Coming Up. Head over to their Myspace for additional tracks and info.

This dude is the real deal. He’s produced like 5 of my favorite tracks of 2010 thus far. If you haven’t heard of him yet, get familiar…..he’s young, talented, and on the serious come-up. I dropped one of his newest tracks, Prick Stick, at Norwood last Saturday and the place went nuts…the same happened at Apotheke last night. Damnit I love this remix so much….and not just because his name rhymes with mine. You may remember it from my most recent mix, Going Internal. Moam’s take on Example’s Watch the Sun Come Up is a banger, not only because of it’s full sound and gratifying ups & downs but because every time I play it live, it makes my heart smile …I wish only the same or better upon you. Chew Fu

One of the best pop/dance remixers out there currently, Chew Fu, out of BK, really knows what he’s doing. In fact, instead of a remixer, he likes to call himself a serial fixer, which I agree with. For the most part, his renditions are better than the originals….take for instance this fix of Rihanna’s Rude Boy. You’d never catch me listening to the original, but once he dropped this one, literally could not stop listening to it. I wrote about his Lady Gaga Bad Romance remix a while ago as well as featured him on my last two mixes, Nowism, and Going Internal…..so needless to say, he’s worth checking out….read his blog here and his Myspace here. Oh and as a little bonus, I included his awesome fix of the Ben E. King’s 60’s hit, Stand By Me, which he did with Steve Clisby. Enjoy hohmies.

Volta Cab

Volta Cab is a fresh, new Russian electro outift seeking to send it’s listeners straight into the future. Once I heard them for the first time, I couldn’t stop listening…and I still can’t. That’s why I sampled not one, but two of their tracks on my recent mix, Going Internal. Their sound is full and synthy, just how I like it. Can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store, but until then, peep their Myspace.

Got some more heavy ish for ya. Fixd, based in Melbourne, found me on twitter a few months back and I’m glad they did. Check out this original of theirs, called Hurricane as well as a remix of Muse’s Undisclosed Desires. This guy doesn’t need much introduction. Gigamesh has been one of my favorite dance music producers for a while now remixing new wave disco versions of Jackson 5 all the way to Radiohead (featured here) and seemingly everywhere in between. If the Gigamesh name isn’t familiar (it should be), you’ve definitely heard a few Discotech tracks which have been dominating clubs for the last couple years (he makes up 1/3 of the powerhouse production crew also including Danny Daze & Joe Maz). It’s insanely difficult for me to pick just two tracks by him, so I’ll go with a newer one as well as an older favorite. The first being his recent remix of Classixx’s tracks I’ll Get You, and the second a remix of Estate’s Write To Make (also featured on When Passion Meets Intention). I highly recommend you check out his site and his Myspace for some additional tracks, cuz this is just an introduction to what he’s doing and what he’s done in the past…watch out for this one. no jokes.

Diamond Cut

Diamond Cut is definitely a producer you guys should be staying aware of. He’s been moving more and more into my radar over the last 6 months and his remixes seem to keep getting stronger and stronger. These two recents of his I absolutely love, the first being a remix of the Cinnamon Chasers track I Like Watching You and the second a remix of Fear Of Tigers The Adventures of Pippi Longstromp. Both of them give me the nostalgic feeling of looking back on high school, not sure why, but it’s great nonetheless. I’d definitely categorize him into the Binary-devised Dreamwave genre, but he still produces some great banging tracks as well **one I play all the time is his remix of LexiconDon’s Heart Attack…in fact, I liked it so much I even featured it on my most recent mix, Nowism. Check these two awesome tracks out and hit up his Myspace to see what else you’re missing.

Crookers

Whoa…dance music production is getting out of control good. Case and point, Crookers featuring Soulwax & Mixhell’s new track, We love animals. The first minute or so confuses the listener…how fast is it going to be? Is there a beat? what’s going on here? and then, right when you think you can’t handle it anymore, release, the beat drops, and holy shit is it rewarding. Honestly, I haven’t been into most of Crookers stuff, which I blame mostly on not getting to see them live yet, but this, I can get down with. Plus, I love animals too, so, yea. Phonat

Phonat’s really getting me excited for forthcoming work. I’ve only heard a few of his tracks thus far, but the level at which he’s producing already screams great things for 2010. I first found out about him through Avicii’s remix of his jam Set Me Free. These days I find myself enjoying remixes more than originals, but I was happily surprised to see that the original is just as good, if not better. In fact, I liked both tracks so much, I featured them on my recent mix, Nowism. Definitely watch out for this guy, check his site out here and his Myspace here. I

Ok, I’m not one to drift toward hyperbole (hah), but, I haven’t felt this way about a trance/house producer since I was introduced to Tiesto. After using two of his remixes in my recent mix Nowism, I figured I’d check out the rest of his work, so I downloaded a good part of his catalogue, and GOD DAMN, this guy is good. There really weren’t any originals or remixes that I wasn’t loving. I strongly suggest you guys get some more of his stuff. These are just two of twenty or thirty songs I could easily have chosen to include on here. Better believe you’ll be hearing his tunes in my upcoming sets, check his site out here and his Myspace here….cuz it’s oh, so new new.

Lady Gaga

Needless to say, Gaga’s pretty much “it” right now. Can’t say I’ve listened to any of her albums all the way through, but one thing I know is she’s different, not just the normal popstar…and I respect that. Of course, I’ve got her jams on lock, mostly to appease the 10 gaga requests I get everytime I spin, but now that I’ve got these two banger remixes of her new single, Bad Romance, I can actually get excited about playing these tracks. I liked these two remixes by Chew Fu & Starsmith so much that I mixed them together for the opener of my new mix, Nowism. Ga Ga, Ohh La La.

I wrote a while ago about Drake’s hit Forever and I just heard this remix of it that’s a serious killer. Docta Dawe does a fantastic job mashing it with Massive Attack, adding an ambient vibe yet still maintaining the hardness of the track. This shit’s dope…..dot com. **As a bonus, since I like the Eminem verse in this track so much, I’ve included White Panda’s mashup of Lil Jon, Oceanlab, and that verse….random, but I like it.

Fred Falke

Fred Falke has so many remixes, and they’re almost all good. I had a seriously tough time picking just two for this post. In the end, the first one I went with is his remix of Sneaky Sound System’s I Love It, which has become a staple to my sets. I even included it in my summer mix, When Passion Meets Intention. The second, a remix of Whitest Boy Alive’s Golden Cage. If you didn’t know, Whitest Boy Alive is a side project of my “favorite group ever” Kings of Convenience, so the selection seems appropriate. Check his Myspace out for some more killer tracks. As for you Fred, keep going, you’re the man.
