Planet Rock’s a new collaboration coming out of one of LA’s best electronic music/event sites: Danceism. The trio, consisting of Ben Optsru, Dom Corleon, and Asaa describe their sound as “futuristic booty bass while paying homage to it’s 90s hip hop roots.” Check out their remixes of Robyn’s smash hit, Show Me Love as well as Diplo’s Horsey and if you dig the sounds make sure to like their Facebook page and head over to their Soundcloud for other awesome tracks (see LAZRBEAM).

Purity Ring

Been meaning to write about Purity Ring for a while now…sorry it’s taken me this long but serrrrrriously….listen to how good these productions are. Soooo original and so clean. Love it. All of their sites literally say nothing about them other than tour dates, so i don’t know much. It’s ok though, their songs speak for themselves. Koan Sound

Can’t stop listening to these guys right now…soooooo good. Koan Sound, out of Bristol, UK caught my ear a few months back and with further look into their work, I became addicted. The hard stuff I like, but it’s their minimal, melodic work that I love. Their remix of Andain’s Promises is incredible, so is their original, Hesitation. Jamie Woon

So I know that I already featured his track, Night Air on the HOHME Hundred, but still I can’t stress how good Jamie Woon is. If any album deserves a double post, it’s his debut, Mirrorwriting, which released on the 18th of last month. Upon first listen, it was immediately one of my new favorites. It was insanely difficult for me to even pick four favorites, but I finally decided on Street, Lady Luck, Shoulda, & TMRW; all of which give me chills on first listen. A new artist you should all get familiar with is Shook. He’s been steadily putting out awesome electro-funk remixes for the last year or so and recently put out a personal EP called The Glow. I included his original track Something About You and his remix of Phoenix’s Lisztomania, but definitely don’t sleep on his other tracks. Check out his remixes here and download The Glow here.

Lemâitre

MMMMMM….yummmy music. That’s what comes to my mind when listening to Lemâitre, out of Oslo, Norway. Hadn’t looked further into them after I found their track, The Friendly Sound, back in November of last year, but glad I recently did due to a reco from my buddy Evan. Their production is too clean, not in the sense of it being basic, whatsoever….more in the fact that each sound element seems to be perfectly placed within the composition. Can’t wait to hear more from these guys, but for now, here’s two tracks off their EP; Blue Shift, and 1:18. Last Thursday, I was fortunate enough to have been flown up to Toronto, Ontario to the DJ the launch for a new clothing line, called Ferknot. It’s actually pretty awesome…you pick a collection shirt, take your measurements as instructed by their online guide, and boom, in two weeks you’ve got a great looking, perfect fitting shirt. Watch out world…this group’s hot…one I’m sure you’ll be seeing a lot more of to come. Currently based in Brooklyn, hailing from Israel, the duo Hank and Cupcakes have been generating some serious attention for their sexy, upbeat pop music. MTV’s already complemented their ”fresh new sound” and Huffington Post has hailed them as one of the ”15 Musical Acts to Break in 2011.” Check out their new hit, appropriately titled; HIT, which they were lovely enough to clear for welcomeHOHME. Recently, I’ve been paying a lot more attention to minimal/tech/deep house and one artist that keeps impressing me is Nicolas Jaar. James Blake

If I’m introducing you to James Blake for the first time, that makes me extremely happy because you’re about to get a peek at one of the most progressive producers out right now….I also happen to be seeing him tonight, so this post’s extra special for me. There’s literally nothing I’ve ever heard that compares to his sound. The first time I listened to the album, it made me cry….not even joking about that. Some of the sounds he’s engineered literally eat away at you…they dive deep into your soul. So, please, put on your favorite pair of headphones for this one…let the sound seep in. Live Footage

You all know I love beautiful music…even further, I love beautiful music that can compliment different environments…music that you can get work done to yet still close your eyes and get lost in it whenever. Live Footage does that for me. Cellist, Topu Lyo and drummer, Mike Thies make up the Brooklyn-based duo. They’ve been playing gigs consistently in and around the Tri-State area for the last year, including their Sunday residency at Apotheke (my Mon/Fri residency). If you haven’t caught them yet, better do so soon as they’re heading out for a European tour in the beginning of April. Audio Oddity

Watching artists evolve through their careers is one of my favorite things about being in the music industry. I wrote about Audio Oddity, out of Southern Oregon last summer when he was remixing for Amp Live and fast forward to present, he just released his first, full-length album, titled Hiding In the Light. Upon first listen, I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised by his evolution as a musician. In fact, I liked the album so much, I listened to it three times in a row. What he’s created is an eclectic menagerie of beautiful melodies and uplifting vocal samples mixed with downtempo beats and tactful dubstep elements. Sounds awesome, right? Well, it is….that’s why he’s getting the rare double post. Check out these two tracks, along with two more on the continued post here. Twin Shadow

I’ve had a bunch of friends point me in the direction of Twin Shadow (George Lewis Jr.) over the last six months and after a few listens, I couldn’t get enough of his hauntingly irresistible sounds. His debut album, Forget, which Lewis recorded and performed fully by himself, released at the end of September and immediately pushed him straight into the spotlight. Born in the Dominican Republic, raised in Florida, now living in Brooklyn, Twin Shadow has quite the future ahead of him, who’s already on a 20+ city tour in Europe as we speak. Definitely grab the entire album, but until then, enjoy these two tracks and check him out on his site or his Myspace.

Chino Maurice

There’s some SERIOUSLY good new-wave soul coming out these days. Just recently, I wrote about Ben L’Oncle Soul, and now I’m thrilled to introduce you guys to Chino Maurice. Some of you know that I play all motown/soul/funky stuff for my monday residency at Apotheke. Chino’s sound encompasses an era that you rarely hear new artists working within these days. That in itself is why his track, Luna, can easily blend into any of my favorite soul classics without sounding out of place whatsoever. He’s brand new to the scene but things are moving quickly as he’s now prepping for his upcoming tour opening for N.E.R.D. Lucky for you peoples, I’ve got him here, pre-blowup with his new hit, Luna. Das Racist

Kinda surprised I haven’t covered Das Racist as of yet. If you were on the internet in 2010, you already know them… but for my cave people out there, may I introduce to you one of the more unique hip-hop acts out these days. Their beats are clean and their lyrical content, although at times seemingly nonsensical, is just as rhythmically impressive as it is witty.
