Kamp!, out of Poland, are a fresh new electro pop group that’s sure to make their presence known in the scene. I like these two singles a lot, and not only because I’m an avid supporter of making words plural for no reason. I don’t know a ton about them yet, but if their most recent work is any indication of where they’re going, I’m sure they’ll be popping up more and more often as time goes on. Sharaya Mikael

I’m a sucker for beautiful music. Case and point: Sharaya Mikael. When her delightfully tranquil voice meets with the clean, yet tactful melodies of her band, it seems to consistently pull me in and instill this general sense of serenity. I love that; when a group can immediately transport you to a completely different place from when you started listening. If you like these two tracks, you should 100% grab her EP, Far Field, over at Reverb Nation. Keep your eyes out for Sharaya on her Myspace and Facebook as she’s currently on a 50-state tour.

Audio Oddity

Matthew Michael, also known as Audio Oddity’s been playing music in Southern Oregon for years now and he’s just starting to put some of his produced/sound engineered work out. Well, I’ll tell you what, he really stepped his game up for Amp Live’s Turn It Up remix contest. He’s due to release his first full-length EP entitled “Hiding in the Light” by January of 2011. HTL, in his words, will be “..a blend of both natural and electronic sounds designed to make you both move your feet and quench your soul.” Jump over to Amp Live’s site to vote for his remix, as he’s currently in the top 20 and the contest ends on the 22nd. Zambri

Recently I was lucky enough to be introduced by a friend to one of the members of Zambri, an up-and-coming Manhattan based group fronted by sisters, Jessica and Cristi Jo Zambri. After a few listens through of their new EP, Bang For Changes, I was addicted to their dark yet delightful sound. They’re getting great press these days and their songs are being remixed by a bunch of DJ’s and producers which usually means we’ll be seeing more live shows pop up from here on. Keep your eyes out for them as I wouldn’t be surprised to see them at festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo next year. Check them out on Facebook and some additional tracks on their Myspace.

Avett Brothers

Every once in a while you find a song that parallels you’re life so close that it blows you away…I had just moved to Brooklyn when I was recommended this song and needless to say, my emotional reaction to hearing this song the first time was quite strong. This song just screams closure…the lyrics spoke somewhat of a nostalgic confidence for me at the time, accepting that it’s not always easy to embrace the closure of a relationship yet instills confidence that although the road ahead is uncertain, there’s quiet confidence in the decision to move on. Either way, that’s just my personal response to it, nonetheless, it’s a great song. Enjoy. Oh an check the Avett Brothers out here and here.

Laura Jansen’s a Dutch musician based in Los Angeles who first established herself when she became a regular at the Hotel Cafe, and esteemed LA music venue. Now, she’s quite famous out in the Netherlands. She’s toured with two other artists I’ve written about previously, William Fitzsimmons and Joshua Radin and her music, as expected, is just as, if not more beautiful and tranquil than theirs. Douster

It’s always great to find out an artist you really want to see is playing the day you find out about it….and even more if you can make it. That’s what happened a couple week back at the White Rabbit on Houston. I’d been hearing a lot about this new genre coming up down in Buenos Aires called Digital Cumbia, being pushed a great deal by this dope label called ZZK….so when I heard one of their main artists, Douster, was doing a show with the UK’s Doorly and Fool’s Gold’s Kingdom, I jumped right on it. Well, as expected, they all killed it. I personally spent almost the entire of the night dancing to their progressively addictive sounds. For this post, I chose to include Douster’s remix of Yolanda Be Cool’s Afro Nuts and Kid Sister’s Daydreaming. Look out for Douster on the road and check out his Myspace for some other tracks. The Bird and the Bee

I was introduced to the bird and the bee about a year back by the boy DRVA. I liked their album, Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future, but no where as much as I like their cover album, Interpreting the Masters: Vol. 1. The group puts a new age/electronic feel to Hall & Oates’ classic hits. Here’s two for you to enjoy, check them out here and here, and go gets this album…it’s worth it.

Mamarazzi

To call Mamarazzi a talented group of individuals would be a complete understatement. I’ve probably seen them live over ten times since I moved to NY, and their eclectic blend of Afro-beat/funk/jazz/hip-hop/soul is unmatched. I was lucky enough to be asked to remix their hit song, Gangster, a few months back, which I ardently agreed to do. Well, after two busy months, I finally put the wraps on the remix. Hope you all enjoy my dancy take on it….oh yea, and don’t forget to change the light bulb.

Mt Eden Dubstep

The boy Samwise pointed me towards this Kiwi dubstep duo a few months back and I’ve been meaning to write about them ever since. New Zealand is the last place I’d expect this kind of music from but I was happily surprised by Mt Eden’s clean and consistent production. I decided to include their original track, Sierra Leone, along with a remix of Burial’s Archangel. They don’t have much representation online, as far as I could find, they really only have a Facebook fan page, where you can check out their upcoming live shows. Either way, enjoy the womp

Rusko’s huge…if you know dubstep, his name is pretty much synonomous with the genre. He just released Da Cali Anthem, which is a BANGER, as it should be with a name like that. Ellie Goulding Part 1

Since I wrote about Ellie Goulding back in September she’s quickly gone from one of my favorite new artists to one of my favorites of all time. Her new album Lights blew me away from first listen…the production is top notch and each song stands on its own just as well as they flow together. I believe the first day I got it, I listened to it five times all the way through. In fact, this album is so good, it’s worth 2 posts….one for songs from the album, another for recent remixes. Talk about viral success….whoever’s behind Ellie’s invasive takeover of online indie music knows what they’re doing. She’s backed up by notable producers like Starsmith and Frankmusik and she has only the best DJs (in my mind) remixing her stuff. Mickey Factz

I’m not positive as to how I found Mickey Factz, but either way, it was meant to happen. I haven’t heard any of his earlier work, just his most recent mixtape titled Dark Phoenix #ALPHA, which I found to be as intellectually tactful as it was pleasantly surprising. He’s definitely got a story to tell, which you can interpret through his passionately syncopated rhyming over top of sampled tracks from Phoenix’s hit album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. It’s been pretty few and far between these days where I find Hip-Hop that I really like and this album got me on first listen. I definitely recommend you download it, not only because it’s free and awesome, but because thoughtful, witty music like this is what’s going evolve Hip-Hop in the right way.

So, the weather’s been str8 crzy in NY as of late so I haven’t been doing much walking around, buuuut, in hopes that the sun will be shining soon I’m gonna share with you my current favorite “walking/skating around NY song”. Hly shiz, this guy is good. Got the heads up from my boy Garrett on this Colorado based guitarist/DJ/Producer and immediately was getting down to his complex and progressive beats. I loved his 11-track EP Before I Sing and just recently downloaded his 4 song preview of an upcoming dual-volume release called Beyond the Looking Glass and wow, this guy can produce. He does a fantastic job fusing “elements of hip hop and soul with modern rock guitar and dubstep textures.” I literally can not sit still while listening to Attunement…that, my friends, is what I call a beat. Stay tuned for the full-length release, but until then, download the 4 track preview and check his Myspace out for some more great stuff.

Carmen Rizzo

I love the ambient and gentle nature of James Yuill’s music. Almost Postal Service sounding, I can enjoy his music just as much in my headphones as I can as background music while I write. MC Yogi

Having recently started attending yoga regularly, I was reminded of an artist my boy Samwise referred me to named MC Yogi back in the summer. When I heard his fresh blend of hip-hop and spiritual chanting for the first time, I was immediately addicted. He grew up on Hip-Hop, but at 18 began studying meditation, yoga, and devotional chanting. Now, he rocks shows and owns a yoga studio in Point Reyes, Ca. Indubious

True consciousness is not something easily attained. It’s another thing to dedicate your life to it. Look past Indubious’s obvious musical talent and you’ll find a story just as inspiring as their intentions. Quite clearly stated, their purpose is “to reconnect the people of the world with rightful living, rightful speaking through teaching the everlasting blessings of service to humanity, of service to our higher purpose and higher selves. Our gift is music – and through our music we wish to speak the truth in an effort to inspire others to do the same, to change the vibration of our planet and help others express the true loving nature within us all.” Damn. Where did Righteous Sound come from? These guys are doing it right and doing it well. Grassroots to the core, they’re selling out concerts left and right, developing a seriously passionate audience while they go. Artists like Indubious and their label brother Alcyon Massive are really putting southern Oregon on the map musically.
